§ 1 Translation service

Christian F. Siege (or any qualified employee), hereafter „translator“, performs a service as a freelancer for a customer, who will pay a fee according to the translator's price list. This service includes translations of written texts from German to English and/or English to German. The translator reserves the right to keep the formatting of the original document for the target text (fonts, charts, font size, etc.) or to change it considering that meaning and contents of the original text remain clearly recognizable to the recipient unless otherwise agreed. If the translator submits the translated documents electronically (via e-mail, WhatsApp or other services), the customer has to determine the desired file format of the target text in advance. The translator reserves the right to refuse certain file formats. Possible file formats are .pdf, .docx, .odt and .rtf. The translator may agree to other file formats which have to be determined in advance. The translator will send the target text exclusively as follows: .rtf, .odt, .pdf, .docx, .doc. If not determined in advance, the target text will be sent as a PDF. Pictures: .jpg only.

§ 2 Interpreting service

Upon request, the translator will work as an interpreter, too. This service includes transferring the contents of any speech, lecture or conversation from German to English and/or English to German. As far as possible, the customer ought to submit any information concerning these contents (speeches, lectures, printed forms) at least three days in advance in order to enable the translator to be prepared. A fee might accrue for preparation (e. g. written translation of a wedding speech in advance for fluent presentation).

§ 3 Acceptance of order

The translator reserves the right to refuse an order without giving a reason. An order is valid if both translator and customer confirm the order nuncupative or in written form. The translator reserves the right to insist on an order in written form or on a written agreement in case of large scale orders. The translator may look at the documents prior to confirming the order. If the customer wishes to cancel an order, the translator needs to be informed immediately. The customer must pay for the work that has already been done until cancellation (see § 4 Calculation of fees and customer's payment obligation). The translator must be granted a suitable period of time for processing the order.

§ 4 Calculation of fees and customer's payment obligation

The fees are based on the latest price list. The translator reserves the right to insist on cash payment and to refuse bank transfer without giving a reason. Cash and bank transfer are the only acceptable methods of payment unless otherwise agreed (e. g. PayPal). Any translation remains the possession of the translator until full payment. The translator reserves the right to keep the translated documents until full payment. Interpreting is payable cash right after service. The translator reserves the right to grant discounts to certain customers, to settle the amount of these discounts, and to negotiate fees which vary from the latest price list (for the customer's benefit), e. g. for enormous orders such as books etc. The customer is obligated to fully pay for the translator's service regardless whether the customer still needs the translation (see § 3 Acceptance of order). The payment deadline is stated on the invoice. The translator reserves the right to grant different payment deadlines to certain customers. The translator reserves the right to insist on payment in advance, especially if the customer is expected to leave Germany anytime soon, regardless of his or her nationality. In this case, the customer has to pay a fee amounting to the estimate before the translator starts processing the order. The translator reserves the right to start processing the order after payment only. A surplus will be refunded on delivery of the translation. If the actual costs exceed the estimate, the customer has to pay the additional costs on receipt of the invoice. Payment in advance does not apply to business clients located in Germany. The translator reserves the right to insist on an advance prior to processing an order. The price list and the provisions of the price list are part of these conditions.

§ 5 Liability

The translator is obligated to correct deficiencies on his behalf (typographical errors, missing text, etc.) afterwards. The customer does not have to pay for this. The translator is not to be held responsible for errors or damage occurring due to corrupt interpretation on the recipient's behalf. The customer confirms that the recipient has adequate knowledge of the target language.

Any translation of medical documents is not a suitable basis for further diagnosis, therapy, treatment or anything else regarding patients’ health. Brand names of medication which might occur in the original document, are translated in addition only. The names as stated in the original document are valid, translations have no validity. The translator has no competence or knowledge to validate or correct units or amounts of medication or other medical treatments or methods as stated in the original; the recipient must consult professional medical staff. The translator is not to be held liable for any typographical, orthographical, or other errors that were made by the creators of the original document or went unnoticed. Validation of the translation by the recipient prior to further use is essential. The translator is not to be held liable for any damage resulting from ignoring this advice.

Any translation of academic records, school transcripts, degrees, or other education related official documents is not a suitable basis for further education or studies. The translation does not qualify to obtain degrees, diplomas, or any other qualification without examination by an authorized board such as the board of education, the board of examination or other authorized organizations, boards or departments. The translation is not a suitable evidence of specialist knowledge or professional education. The translation is an overview that displays comparable qualifications regarding provisions of the respective foreign country where the original document was issued. Any qualification stated in the translation is to be examined and validated by qualified members of authorized boards. The translator does not issue documents of qualification. The translator is not to be held liable for any typographical, orthographical, or other errors that were made by the creators of the original document or went unnoticed. Validation of the translation by the recipient prior to further use is essential. The translator is not to be held liable for any damage resulting from ignoring this advice.

Any changes will be published on the translator's internet page, stating the date of change. The translator may as well be asked about any change personally, by phone, or by e-mail.
